Remember when Christian was Intercontinental Champion for the first time. He had the long hair, opera music at the begining of his theme, and unbelievable heel heat.
On the smark side he was brilliant in-ring and on the mic, and had an original moveset with a very onorthodox finisher. He was having great feuds and matches with Edge and Chris Jericho, he seemed to be destine for the big time. But it never happened.
Christian would lose the IC title and not regain it for two years! He would win the title May 18, 2003 and again in August. He would lose the title again, this time to Rob Van Dam a few months later.
On December 14, 2003 another rising star took the IC title. Unlike Christian he was no more than mediocre in the ring, and his moveset and finisher where far from original. His name, Randy Orton.
What Orton did have, however, was superstar backing. After being recruited in the stable "Evolution" he was surrounded by the likes of Ric Flair and the dominating force of the WWE, Triple H.
Orton quickly built up his greatly over "Legend Killer" persona that lead him to taking out people such as Mick Foley and Harley Race. It was obvious he was being put on the fast track to stardom when he was put into a feud with Mick Foley and arguably the most famous wrestler in the world, The Rock. Orton would score the winning pinfall over Foley at Wrestlemania. It seemed imminent the WWE saw him as the next big thing.
At that same Wrestlemania, Christian faced off against one time friend andlong tome foe Chris Jericho. the three had been involved in a three way love triangle with Trish Stratus. Again, Christian pulled off his great heel character and betrayed Jericho while hooking up Trish. The two put on a great match as per usual.
After bringin in Tyson Tomko as their "Problem Solver" Christian and Trish went on a heel rampage scoring the scorn of marks across the nation but the praise of smarks across the world.
Randy Orton would finally lose his Intercontinental Title to none other than Christian's old tag partner Edge. Edge would lose the title to the man Christian had went over on at Wrestlemania, Chris Jericho.
Orton's run to stardom didn't stop by any means whatsoever. On an episode of Raw, Ortopn would eliminate Chris Jericho to become the number one contender for Chris Beniot's world title.
At Summerslam 2004, Randy Orton would become the youngest WWE World Champion by defeating Benoit. The very next night Orton's career would take a dive. He was turnedon by his Evolution buddies, which in the WWE's mind meant he was now a face.
He would lose his title only four weeks later to Triple H.
For the next four months, Orton wold not get a title rematch, but he was still being pushed. He would pin Triple H at Survivor Series to win the match for his team, buit would seem to be Orton's last hurrah. He would be the final person eliminated in the Eliminatin Chamber match at New Year's Revolution, and in his first 1on1 rematch with Triple H for thew WHC, he would lose. In the mean time, former Evolution buddy Batista won the Royal Rumble, a spot that was planned to be Orton's only a few months before that.
That leads us to now. In a vain attemt to restart Orton's career, he has been placed in a match with none other than the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, an event where 'Taker is 12-0. If he wins this match, Orton would get that kick in his career again. He would be the smart ass, pretty boy, cocky heel that everyone loved to hate but hated to love. He would truly be a legend killer. Many feel that Orton isn't worthy of being the man that finally beats 'Taker at Mania, and I'm one of them. I feel the Wrestlemania win streak is something that should stay. All of the greats have won at Wrestlemania, but none of them have done it twelve times. None of them are undefeated. 'Taker has stayed with the company through it all. For more than a decade he has been a mainstay as one of the WWE's best.
It has been rumored though that Taker will retire this year, and Orton badly needs the win. His career has detoriated that much that any more losses could down right kill everything he had and every chance he has.
Christian on thew other hand has not seen nearly as many opportunities as Orton has but has still managed to keep his character fresh and the same for his matches. Christian is now scheduled for a 6-way ladder match at 'Mania which is sure to steal the show(along with HBK-Angle).
All of that leads me to these questions: Does Christian deserve a world title push? Should Randy Orton go over 'Taker at Wrestlemania? And if Christian had been given the same oppurtunities as Orton would he have done better or worse? Who do like more, Orton or Christian?
