Former Fremantle and North Melbourne forward Gary Dhurrkay has been killed in a car accident in Arnhem Land.

The 31-year-old died when his car rolled on Melville Road near Nhulumbuy in the Northern Territory around 4:30am on Sunday.

Police said it appeared that Mr Dhurrkay was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

Mr Dhurrkay played 51 games for Fremantle between 1995 and 1998 before moving to the Kangaroos for 21 games.

He retired in June 2000 to return home to the Territory and commit himself to his cultural beliefs.

I remeber him cause he is on my AFL 99 game on PS1 and he was always at half foward flank, What a champ! rest in peace mate
