Focuses on Episode III mainly...
Episode III, Revenge of the Sith is set 19 years before the original Star Wars movie (Episode IV: A New Hope.) Three years have elapsed since Episode II, Attack of the Clones.
The core plot of the new movies were written when George Lucas wrote Star Wars in 1975.
Lucas shot a short scene for Episode III in the Tunisian desert during the Episode II shoot in 2002, to avoid flying the team back out there three years later. It is rumoured to be the so called 'Harry Potter' scene, in which Obi Wan Kenobi delivers the infant Luke Skywalker to his aunt and uncle.
Episode VI was originally called Revenge of the Jedi. In the special edition of ROTJ, Lucas leaked that name to catch bootleg merchandisers. He said a true Star Wars fan would have known it was a false title because a Jedi would never seek revenge.
The final duel between Obi Wan and Anakin marks the first (and only) time that two characters fight each other using the same coloured lightsabers.
Gary Oldman had agreed to be the voice of the new character General Grevious, but pulled out of the film because non-union actors were employed and Oldman is a member of the Screen Actors Guild.
Hayden Christensen gained 11kg for Episode III, eating six meals a day.
Episode I, The Phantom Menace is the fourth highest grossing movie ever, with a world wide take of $1.2 billion. The original Star Wars comes in at No.13, with $1 billion.
Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker are the only actors to appear in all six Star Wars films. In second place is Frank Oz, who appeared in five of the films, and in third place are James Earl Jones, Peter Mayhew and Ian McDiarmid, who all appear in four of the films.
Darth Vader is Dutch for 'dark father'.
In Episode V, the Empire Strikes Back, David Prowse, who played Darth Vader, was told to say that Obi Wan was Luke Skywalker's father to protect the plot twist. The real words were latter dubbed in by James Earl Jones and Prowse only found at the premiere.
James Earl Jones recorded all of Darth Vader's dialogue for the original Star Wars in one two hour session. He was paid $10, 000.
The Shanghai night club at the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, which was produced by George Lucas, is called Club Obi-Wan. R2-D2 and C-3PO can also be seen as hieroglyphics in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
There are species of wasp called Polemistus chewbacca and Polemistus yoda. Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, has a spider named after him - Calponia Harrisonfordi.
Kurt Russell, Christopher Walken and Nick Nolte auditioned for the part of Han Solo, while Sissy Spacek and Jodie Foster auditioned for Princess Leia. Haley Joel Osmond auditioned to play Anakin.
In a senate scene from Episode I a group of E.T.s and Aliens can be seen.
In Episode II Lucas' daughter, Katie, appears as a dancer in the nightclub scene. Likewise, his sone, Jett, appears as a young Jedi in the Jedi archives scene.
When Jango Fett runs into his ship after his fight with Obi Wan, he bangs his head on the partially opened door. This was intentional and is in reference to a famous goof from the original Star Wars, in which a Stormtrooper accidently banged his head on a door.
The Clone Troopers' rifle design is based on the German MG-42 machine gun.
In Episode I, Qui Gon Jinn's communicator is a redecorated Sensor Excel Razor for Women.
To create he sounds of the spectators during the pod race scene in Episode I, sound designer Ben Burtt took a recorder to a San Francisco 49ers American Football game and recorded the crowd.
The digital character form Episode I, Jar Jar Binks, was so hated that a Detroit rapper called Stormtroopa was inspired to write a song called Jar Jar Binks Must Die.
In 1978, the Star Wars Holiday Extravaganza aired on TV. The plot centred around Chewbacca returning to his home planet to meet wife Mala, child Lumpy and father Itchy. Carrie Fisher sang a song based on the Star Wars theme and Jefferson Starship and Bea Arthur also appeared. Lucas later said that if he had a hammer and the time, he would track down and smash every copy in existence.
Pretty good read.
