Lee breaks 100m/h

RICKY Ponting set a string of records and Brett Lee broke the 100-mile-an-hour barrier as Australia completed a one-day series whitewash of New Zealand in menacing style today.
Lee clocked his fastest-ever delivery of 160.8km/h in the first over of New Zealand's impotent reply to the world champions massive total of 5-347 at Napier's McLean Park.
Ponting led from the front in the 122-run victory with an unbeaten 141 off 127 balls - the highest one-day knock ever made in New Zealand.
His bowlers closed out the 5-0 series clean sweep by restricting the home side to 8-225 off 50 overs.
Lee had the Black Caps on the back foot immediately by letting rip two thunderbolts quicker than 160km/h (100m/h) in the opening over to opener Craig Cumming.
The first missile was a wide down the leg side but next ball he delivered a full delivery outside off-stump that was captured by the speed gun at 160.8km/h.
Lee's fastest before today was 160km/h at Port Elizabeth in the 2003 World Cup.
The fastest officially-recorded delivery was 161km/h, bowled by Pakistan tearaway Shoaib Akhtar against NZ batsman Craig McMillan in Lahore in 2002.
While Lee continued to push his seemingly irresistible Test claims with his lethal pace, the man he is looking to replace, Michael Kasprowicz, also made the capacity Napier crowd gasp in his first over.
Kasprowicz, who returned the best figures of 3-36 off 10 overs, dismissed NZ skipper Stephen Fleming (35) and James Marshall off successive balls before unluckily being denied a hat-trick.
The paceman struck McMillan on the pads in front first ball but the batsman was given the benefit of the doubt.
The nuggety McMillan continued to ride his luck throughout to post a hard-hitting 63 (69 balls) in a lone hand.
When on 34 he uppishly bunted the ball towards Andrew Symonds at extra cover who claimed a low diving catch.
Umpire David Shepherd gave McMillan out but he refused to leave the wicket before Ponting then appeared to over-rule the decision.
Slow-motion television replays failed to confirm whether the correct decision was made.
Ponting earlier belted 10 fours and five sixes in his classy knock, taking up the slack after Adam Gilchrist smacked 91 (61 balls) on being sent in by Fleming.
The skipper signed off on his 17th ODI century and the tourists innings in style with two towering sixes off the last two balls to receive a standing ovation from the crowd of 10,817.
It surpassed the previous highest one-day score made in NZ by Glenn Turner (140 not out against Sri Lanka in Auckland in 1982-83) and surpassed the highest by an Australian against NZ (138no by Greg Chappell in Sydney in 1980-81).
Ponting also claimed a ground record by eclipsing rival captain Stephen Fleming's 111 not out against Australia at McLean Park seven years ago.
The world champion's total was also the biggest one-day score amassed at the Napier ground, easily eclipsing the previous best of 6-277 set by NZ against Pakistan in 1984-85.
The depleted Black Caps injury woes continued with all-rounder Chris Cairns pulling his hamstring while fielding in the fourth over and then failing to play a part with bat or ball.
